“Music is life. Music is Love. We’ve been living under a grand illusion that we are separate from one another but nothing could be further from the truth. Music is the universal language of love. I am you and you are me and if we could see, we’d all be much better and free.” – Damon Foreman
Since earning a B.A. in Music from Rutgers University, Damon has written, instructed, and performed music throughout the United States and around the world in places such as London, Paris, Cannes, Bermuda and Puerto Rico in addition to the far east. He has performed with musical luminaries including: Ashford and Simpson, George Clinton, Ron Carter, Betty Carter, Ted Dunbar, Larry Ridley, Kenny Barron, Sonny Rollins and Wynton Marsalis,Freda Payne, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, The Contours,The Marvelettes,Will Downing, The Whispers,Melba Moore, Patti Labelle, and Pieces of a Dream. Damon frequently works with other high profile musicians including Kevin Walker (Prince, Justin Timberlake),Gary Grainger (Whitney Houston,John Scofield) and Scott Ambush (Spyrogyra)
Is Damon a poet? Perhaps. But more than that, he’s an artist with spirit and a warm, gentle heart. A charismatic performer, Damon's eclectic artistry breaks through the boundaries of music genres. He can sooth your soul with his Jazz, wake your Spirit with his Soul, jumpstart your heart with his Funk, and light your fire with his Rock. Influences include Prince, Hendrix, Santana and George Benson. However, Damon’s range is too broad for definition. From Boogie Woogie, to Rhythm & Blues, to Reggae, Damon and his Blue Funk musicians will leave you with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.
Eventually Damon settled with his family in Columbia, Maryland, and since then, Foreman has been a regular at many area venues from Baltimore to Washington DC and throughout Howard County. He has been repeatedly invited back to the Wine in the Woods Festival for several years in a row and won the 2001 Howie Award for Outstanding Artist from the Howard County Arts Council. Now he lives a dual life as professional performer and Music Teacher and has quite a loyal and faithful fan base that notoriously follow him from gig to gig no matter what the venue. They enjoy the variety, versatility and the warm loving feeling they get from his live performances. You can also count him infusing his sense of humor into his performances and interactions with the audience – yet another quality that makes him endearing to his fans.
In addition to Damon’s love and enthusiasm for music, Damon has a great passion and dedication to socio-political issues such as human rights, the environment, freedom of speech and expression, and the betterment of humankind. He’s a family man who cares for his wife and children and loves to interact with a variety of people. His fascination with the human condition helps to inspire him in his song writing and he yearns to spread a positive message of love, tolerance, acceptance, and a hope for our children’s future with his music. Damon doesn’t just perform music for his own sake; he shares it with his audience in a very palpable way. He wants to do his part in making the world a better place and he knows music can be a very powerful tool in doing just that. One of the best examples is in his original creation, “Every Day”. In Damon’s own words he explains it best that “This song just came out of me. I live the funk lifestyle and tunes like this just manifest. This song is old School, George Clintonized Funk with Prince flair. This one says “Everyday in every way I want to make things better, Oh yes I do” This tune will get your head bobbing and fingers snapping. The verse breaks into a bit of a funky reggae feel, as it tells a story of helping folks on the street. The chorus then breaks out with a hard funk, Every Day, I'm gonna make it better. Just an expression of how I love folks endlessly.”
Damon is now doing what he tells his students to do – to take it to the next level and share one’s talent, knowledge, spirit, and experience with others by singing your song to the world!
